In 1959, Arnel Hallauer became director of Iowa State University’s (ISU) maize breeding program.
Hallauer was part of a team of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Iowa State scientists who developed the B73 line of hybrid corn, one of six lines that are the basis for much of the seed-parent lines of corn used in the U.S. and in temperate regions worldwide.
