Sygen Company began commercializing genetic markers for litter size

In 1994, Sygen Company began commercializing genetic markers such as the ESR (Estrogen Receptor Gene) for litter size developed at Iowa State University (ISU). A number of important genetic markers for pigs have been discovered by ISU researchers that are used to identify leaner breeding animals, those with the ability to produce larger litters and other commercially important traits to the entire swine industry.
