The National Science Board announced that William O Baker was the recipient of its Vannevar Bush Award

In 1981, the National Science Board (NSB) announced that William O. Baker was the recipient of its Vannevar Bush Award.

Baker was President Emeritus, Bell Telephone Laboratories, and advisor to five presidents on scientific matters.

Established in 1980, the award commemorates Vannevar Bush, a science advisor to President Roosevelt during World War II. The driving force behind the creation of the National Science Foundation.
