In 2005, The Patient Navigator Research Program (PNRP), a National Cancer Institute initiative, was underway to assess the impact of patient navigators on providing timely and quality standard cancer care to patients following an abnormal cancer finding.

The PNRP was designed to encourage research collaborations and partnerships with organizations serving diverse under served communities within cancer care delivery systems.
