On Jun. 5, 2023, the University of British Columbia (UBC) announced that the faculty of medicine’s Drs. John Fleetham and Keith Walley have been appointed to the Order of Canada for 2023.

The appointments were announced by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada. Considered one of the country’s highest civilian honours, the Order of Canada recognizes those who have enriched the lives of others and made extraordinary contributions to the nation.

Dr. Fleetham, a professor in the department of medicine, is recognized for his pioneering work in sleep disorder medicine and for his mentorship of the next generation of sleep scientists.

Dr. Walley, a professor in the department of medicine, is recognized for his innovative and translational research in the field of sepsis and septic shock.
