Consumer Product Safety Commission was enacted by Congress

On Oct. 27, 1972, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress.

The CPSA assumed programs pioneered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under 1927 Caustic Poison Act, 1960 Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act, 1966 Child Protection Act, and PHS accident prevention activities for safety of toys, home appliances, etc.
