U.S. Hospitals No longer Required to Report COVID-19 Infection Data
On May 1, 2025, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that hospitals are no longer required to report COVID-19 hospital admissions, hospital capacity, or hospital occupancy data to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
The CDC encourages ongoing, voluntary reporting of hospitalization data. Data voluntarily reported to NHSN after May 1, 2024, is available at Trends in Hospital Utilization, Capacity, and Reporting – NHSN.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is a cabinet-level executive branch department of the U.S. federal government created to protect the health of the U.S. people and providing essential human services. Its motto is “Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America”.
