Cancer Therapy & Research Center at San Antonio began offering outpatient radiation therapy
In 1974, the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at the University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at San Antonio began to offer outpatient radiation therapy to the local community.
Radiation oncology is a medical specialty where doctors use powerful energy beams like X-rays and electrons (called radiation therapy) to treat cancer in different ways. In some scenarios, they use radioactive sources placed directly in the tumor during surgical procedures.
